Clinical Services
During the pandemic, all services are available via video or phone-based sessions.
Psychotherapy - Adults
Psychotherapy is a collaborative relationship in which we work together towards goals that you identify. I will support you as you explore the parts of your life you wish to focus on and better understand. This can ultimately help you take the steps necessary to promote the changes you desire in your life. Typical concerns that adults seek treatment for include anxiety, depression, anger management, dealing with trauma, and relationship difficulties.
Family Therapy
Family sessions with parents and their children can help identify interactions among family members that can contribute to problematic situations as well as identify methods for improving these relationships. In family sessions, combinations or all members of the family can meet to explore and enhance their relationships with each other.
Psychotherapy - Children and Adolescents
Psychotherapy can be appropriate for older children and adolescents who present with similar concerns. Depending upon the age of the child, I use expressive strategies such as art and storytelling methods to help them gain mastery over their problems as well as more fully recognizing their assets. Psychotherapy may be appropriate for children and adolescents who are on the autism spectrum depending on their level of functioning.
Parent Counseling and Consultation
Parent sessions are required when a child is being treated. Their purpose is for me to acquire additional information related to your child’s growth. These sessions are also utilized to collaborate with parents to review home based interventions designed to help ensure carryover of gains made in therapy.
If a child is unable to attend sessions, I provide parent consultations. In this instance, I meet with a parent to discuss their child’s adaptation to changes in their life or management of specific behavioral difficulties.
Play Therapy
Working with children in psychotherapy presents special considerations, as a child may not be able to verbalize their feelings. Children often misbehave and act out or experience anxiety and depression when they are unable to cope with certain situations. A therapist needs specific therapeutic techniques that allow a child to explore the areas they struggle with in a safe, nonthreatening manner. I offer play therapy in working with preschool and younger school age children, which allows a child to “play out” rather than talk out their worries. Play therapy can help a child learn adaptive ways to cope.
Consultation with School/Medical Personnel
To obtain the most comprehensive understanding of a child’s presenting difficulties, I contact appropriate school or medical personnel who know the child well and are able to provide additional information. This is often very useful in treatment planning.
